Anyone that has to drive down the 54/56 corridor knows how bad it can get. Two task forces have been studying the situation and have found the problem. Good news they have pin pointed the intersection of 41 and 54. Good news its not the "Billions" of new cars that will be added over the next 10 yrs with all the new homes.

Although the widening of State Road 54 and State Road 56 to six lanes has provided some relief for drivers, the reprieve won’t last long, according to the MPO. In the next 25 years, the population of Pasco County will triple with most of the growth — 135,000 new residents — settling in large-scale community developments along the 54/56 corridor.
“They’re building hundreds of new homes along that corridor that will dump a ton of more trips onto 54/56,” MPO senior planner Manny Lajmiri said. “If we’re going to be ready for it, we have to act now.”

I don't see where good news are. The recommendations were presented, but getting anything build is out of question for lack of money, so lets be clear traffic will not be relieved anytime soon

With growth like that they better make it 5 lanes in each direction. Pasco county growth will triple. Wow!

Luckily for pasco the influx of new construction is just concentrated to the south side of the county. When Hillsborough went through its major new builds 1990's-2000's, it was in several areas of the county. With triple the new homes then what pasco is going through now. If they can't handle this, then they are in big trouble with all the cars and new schools that will be needed. We have been there and done that in Hillsborough already. Major problem with pasco is the lack of north and south roads leading to Tampa.

To me, the biggest issue with 54/56 is the fact that the traffic lights have no synchronization whatsoever. A recent trip from Wesley Chapel to Tarpon Springs took over an hour, mostly due to the fact that every single light turned red on the way. Every. Single. Light.

Widen away, but it won't help if traffic cannot gain flow due to obstructionist traffic lights.

You must of hit the wrong pace I recently went in that direction and hit 2 or 3 lights, and had green all the way.
I know we already had this conversation here about signals not being synchronized, but I ensure you people who came up with this set up know exactly what they are doing and why. It's not a 2 dimension problem really, you can set up green phase to let one driver get from Wesley Chapel to Tarpon Spring without stopping We are talking about 27 miles of road through pretty populated area

Let's be thankful Pasco at least is trying to show us they are trying to make it work, but in my opinion this additional evaluation study was a waste of time and money, nobody has or will have anytime soon money needed for this recommended alternatives (most being elevated roads)

I agree. Oh well traffic nightmares to no end. Also as other posters have said before if they did something with the lights they could ease traffic. I cant understand why they don't. Pretty easy fix.
