I love the way the Tampa Airport decided to poo-poo this data breach despite numerous warnings from their employees.

"I was very unhappy when this happened," Lopano said. "It's unacceptable. But the people involved are gone."

Sure, not a problem - we got rid of the people involved so there's no problem here. Right.

Now that the TSA and others are aware of what happened they finally take it seriously.

Had the TSA and state Attorney General not started poking around, they would have just blown the whole thing off.

Can you imagine? Having someone with administrative access allow others, especially unauthorized people from other countries, use their account to remotely access the Airport's systems? Can someone say "best practices?"

Wow. If this was the private sector, lots of heads would be rolling....

The article indicates that the director of IT and another manager were fired.

Which is more than can be said for a certain presidential candidate who held classified emails on a private server.

The IATA location identifier is TPA, the abbreviation of the name is TIA. I wasn't using the IATA location identifier.

The average citizen isn't familiar with Jeppesen charts, either.

They weren't fired, they resigned. Much like the security analyst who bailed out, they were pressured to leave. There is a far more detailed report on the gory details from Channel 10 here:

In my opinion, the airport IT department is a really sketchy place, and has been for some time. This has been a long time coming.
