My husband and our family are thinking of relocating to Fl. from Maine. We were looking in the Tarpon Springs area. We have 2 daughters, 13 and 9. Can anyone tell me, any info. on this town? Crime, schools, sports ect.

Do you have any suggestions as far as towns go? We are flying down in January, to look around. We do not want to be inland.

Smile Tarpon Springs, Florida

Hi,

You will definately love it here. I have lived in Tarpon Springs now for 3 years. I would never move from here but my husband got very sick and now my house is up for sale. We are going to move closer to my daughter.
We also lived in Clearwater for 20 years and don't miss it. It is much nicer in TS, clean beaches, great activities for the family. Really nice parks. It is a great place to raise a familyl. I do not have school age children, but my neighbors tell me the schools are great.

I wish you the best of luck, and you will not regret the move. It is lovely here.

I haven't been there is a long time, it never struck me as a place I could see myself living. Florida has quite a few towns that have names that make you say, "That sounds like a place I would like to live", but the realties can be different.
I like to look particularly at the health issues with a place and crime. I live in Fort Lauderdale where you can taste the air. When I go someplace cleaner, I can actually feel the difference in a day or two.

You wouldn't think so but Florida has a lot of places that get bad air readings. I live in one of the worst spots in the state for air. between the sea port, FP&L plant, I 95 the airport and just general congested automobile traffic all within a few square miles, south east Fort Lauderdale is terrible. You need to consider everything and do some real hard research, then visit the place first hand for a long enough period of time to know what it is really like.

Tarpon is really nice. It is one of several areas in north Pinellas and NW Hillsborough that are great places to live.

Tarpon Springs is Sponge country. Really pretty, quaint, picturesque. They have this Greek area where just about everything is Greek. That's the area I was touring when I visited there and really enjoyed how different it was.

Hi there,
What part of Maine are you moving from. My partner and I are from the mid-coast area. She has lived in Maine all her life and wants a second house in Florida to do the snow bird thing. At least there will be two other Mainers in Tarpon Springs if you decide to move there! Good luck
