Hi y'all --

Some of my buddies from NC are coming down soon to visit me. I've only been here for a bit so I'm still getting a feel for the area.

I want to show them a good time and also take the chance to finally be a tourist in Tampa Bay myself. We're three dudes in our mid-late 20s with a bunch of varied interests. I don't think they have been down to Florida before, or at least in a really long time.

Some of the ideas I had were: a Pinellas beach, the casino, Riverwalk, possibly a trip out to Universal, possibly a trip down to Siesta Key (I live in New Tampa, so Siesta Key is just a bit farther than Treasure Island et al), Ybor.

Would MOSI be fun for us, or is it totally geared to tykes?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Nothing happening on Riverwalk yet. Neither with Channelside. Lots of concerts coming. Check outhe stubhub......ie tonight I'm headed to see Journey again.amphitheater is next to casino.... Maybe get a captain to take you fishing for half a day ......gear is usually included. Take kayaking lesson with guide Bradenton.....Google kayak tours. Skip mosi. Rays games are dirt cheap, stubhub. Park downtown, get lunch outdoor hangout, pub then free trolley to game. Google rays trolley. Easy to park downtown most of the time unless Rowdies soccer game going on. Speaking of which, Rowdies is where in the crowd hangs.....Ybor, but be careful......especially after midnight.

Be VERY careful! You'll run into these people:

In all seriousness, take a tour of Coppertail Brewing while in Ybor. Corner of 2nd Ave and 26th St. Cigar City Brewing located just off of Spruce and Dale Mabry. Do the Tampa Bay Water Bike Company thing at the Convention Center docks. Stock at Fodder & Shine, The Refinery, or The Front Porch for food. Curtis Hixon Park Downtown is bound to have something going on.

Go to the one of the beautiful Springs like Rainbow and enjoy what it offers,
Rent a wave runner (Jet Ski) while at the beach.
Caladasi Island would be fantastic.

I would avoid the casino, mainly due to the crime in the area.

Skip Mosi, its for kids and its pretty lame to be honest - your better off going to the children's museum lol

Go kayaking up on Weeki Wachi river, thats really nice and pretty fun. Some cool places to get on rope swings and swim in crystal clear water.

I agree that the wave runners are usually pretty fun as well - or a fishing charter if thats more up you guys alley

Universal is decent, what what are you looking for in a theme park - there may be better.

The casino can be fun, it can also blow a ton of your money in just a few minutes - never know how thats going to go lol

I would 2nd the springs.

No on MOSI

Yes on Yuengling Factory/Tasting

Yes on Ringling Museum if you hit Siesta

Yes on SS American Victory in Channelside.

Have fun!

I personally enjoy Ybor more during the day. Columbia, Tabanero, the history museum, Marti Park etc.

DT St. Pete great at night. If you get a chance try Hawkers while over there maybe a Rays game at the Trop.

I would tend to say if dropping a lot on a theme park, do Disney/Universal over Busch. Not a knock on Busch, just that Disney/Universal are more unique for a first time guest.

Maybe on the way out to or back from there, a stop at the Florida's Natural Store/Factory or Bok Tower Gardens might be of interest, or Mixon Fruit Farm if headed towards Sarasota.
