We have credit union for years now and love it. To the point we got everything through them now - credit cards, car loans, mortgage. No issues whatsoever considering they have just few locations in Florida. Most credit unions allow you to used their "sister" credit unions at no charge like for check deposit, but since they offered the map, we now scan all our checks so no need to drive to the bank. And if I need cash, I always use ATM at Publix with no charge up to 6 times a months I think and $1.5 after that. I would look into credit union as an option.

Do they charge fees for using third party ATM's?

I have Chase now, they have a great range of services including a huge ATM network. It's really nice when I travel that I can usually find a Chase ATM nearby that I can use for free. With minimum balance I pay nothing in fees. They also have some great credit card offerings too. I charge almost everything, pay off balances each month so never pay interest or other fees, but have received pretty good $$ in cashback through simply using the credit card for purchases.

If they do, they hide it well. I haven't had that issue, but I'll start keeping a closer eye on it. Thanks for the heads up.

As a banking exec manager , I know better than to do much online banking. Commercial banks around here are essentially the same - try a few Credit Unions...whatever you do, do a bit of research on the health of the financial institution, you might be surprised.

Banks only make their money about 3 ways : charging you stupid fees, making loans, or buying securities..and most banks are almost criminal in their approach to their customers. Among the worst is JPMC in this region.

Good to know......

And you call yourself a banker. Good post Shekie.

Florida Community Bank is one of the few banks with free checking.

if you want to earn any interest, check out internet banks for savings accounts.
