We are coming down next week to see if Tampa Bay is a good place to live after our retirement. The areas we would like to check out are Westchase, Wesley Chapel, Safety Harbor, Dunedin, Palm Harbor (and Fishhawk maybe). We were supposed to rent a house in Westchase but the homeowner didn't know his HOA doesn't allow a short-term rent until yesterday. We really wanted to rent a house while we are visiting because we want to know what it is like living there. Since this rent didn't work out and we don't have much time until we get there, we will have to stay at a hotel. I know there are numerous hotels in the area, but considering what we want to do and which areas we are interested in, I wonder if anyone has recommendations on which hotel we should stay.

Thank you.

Try www.vrbo.com Many available since it's summer.

FYI, strongly agree on renting exactly where you think you might want to relocate. Over the course of 2 winters, we rented 3 different houses in the downtowns of Dunedin, Safety Harbor and Gulfport, each for a month. We knew we wanted walking distance to at least a dozen eateries and some funky charm. Gulfport won our hearts, but we're glad we test-drove all 3 before making up our minds. It took some time, but was worth it as we're absolutely thrilled with our new home town.

Good luck to you!

I believe it is too late to use vrbo now. I don't think we have enough time to send a contract back and forth.

Ditto for us! We're also considering moving to that area and will be planning a house hunting trip. We're more flexible than you it seems as we live only 2 1/2 hours away so if we need to make a few trips it won't be that big of a deal.

When we go, we'll most likely be staying at The Hollander. They have kitchen suites, it's quaint, historic, 4 nice walking blocks from the Bay with great shops and restaurants and it's dog-friendly. Good luck! If you know a good realtor, send me a private message please. It will be good to have a name.

Not true. My last 4 vrbo's were last minute and we scanned contract and paid via paypal. All were wonderful rentals, no problems.

You are right. We searched through vrbo again and were able to find a house. Thank you for prompting me.
