Pretty sure that honor goes to NYC. By a significant margin. Followed by Miami.

And quite frankly, foreigners know Disney -- not so much Orlando. I equate it to someone flying into West Palm Beach and saying they were in Miami.

when i go to france the only place people know in florida is miami; they have no clue what tampa or orlando are. they all want to visit and dream of miami (whether they have already visited or have never been).

"ooo la la MEE-A-MEEE" they swoon

they know miami, they know new york city, they know california, they know texas (cowboys! bbq!)

tampa? yeah no

i just had a vision of dumping a Parisian in the middle of downtown Tampa.............and asking for his opinion after. LMAOOOOOOOO

I think Orlando may have dropped but I do recall one year they had more visitors than New York, but I am sure that can be disputed. They are 3rd as of 2018, maybe 4 or 5th.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touris...%20and%20Spain.

" As of 2018, New York City is the most visited destination in the United States, followed by Los Angeles, Orlando, Las Vegas, and Chicago"

Orlando has the 7th busiest airport in the WORLD.

"With domestic traffic jumping 92 percent over 2020, Orlando International Airport is now the seventh busiest airport in the world. 38,400,636 passengers traveled through the airport in 2021."

https://www.islandernews.com/news/fl...rt%20in%202021.

Bottom line. Tampa probably wont come near.

I was in Spain for a summer back in 97. Everyone I talked to knew about Orlando and Disney. The exact location in Florida was fuzzy to them, but they definitely knew. This was around Shaq time and Disney of course.

I compared both because they both are called the “bay areas”. I understand that Tampa is not like San Francisco at least for right now. If you read my initial response you’ll see I already said this.

The Miami metro would literally have to disappear or sink to the bottom of the Atlantic for this to even remotely have a chance of happening and even then, the Jacksonville metro would probably be a serious contender.

Great passion, and if you don't work for the city of Tampa or county of Hillsborough, you really should consider it. Lord knows Florida needs more passionate difference makers...not just clock watchers counting down the days and hours to clock out/retire. Far too much apathy in this state.

And to be honest Miami is already a world city. To put into better perspective Miami is the Los Angelos of Florida and Tampa is the San Francisco but Tampa just has a little catching up to do. It will happen - It is happening.
