Hi Everyone - My wife and I recently moved to the St. Pete area. We are loving it and only wish we had found your friendly waterfront city sooner! Amazing. Anyhow, we are renting in St. Pete Beach while we look for the right home. We have a 17 month old, so are focused on areas/neighborhoods that have quite a few young families. Ideally, we are picturing him riding down the street on his bike one day, playing in the cul-de-sac with friends etc. We enjoy boating and have heard that the St. Pete Beach area is for instance potentially better for boating than for instance Venetian Isles (ie someone said weedon island vs shell key). We've also heard there are potentially more (local) families in Venetian Isles for instance than St. Pete Beach.

If the above is true, what are some favorite St. Pete neighborhoods (that have some waterfront homes) that have both great boating and families? We have a great realtor and she's given us her input, but just curious to get a couple additional opinions to consider. thank you! (1.2M is top of our budget)

Venetian Isles is a loooooong boat ride down to St. Pete Beach. and the gulf/canal lifestyle.

Nice neighborhood though.

Why not stay in SPB or look at Treasure Island?

Thank you everyone! Yes, Venetian Isles does seem like a long boat ride to the areas where people lounge on clear water sandbar's etc for the afternoon. We will check out Pasadena Y&CC. Not sure how many young families live there - but we will ask around. thank you

I love it here too, and also wish I had come here many years ago, especially before all this recent development! Nevertheless, I am here now, and very grateful to have found a city that I feel comfortable just being myself in.

You might want to rethink the bicycle in the street thing though. I ride a bike and use it for basic transportation, and this has been how I've gotten around for over 3 decades in many different cities, but St Pete is hands down the most dangerous places I have ever seen to ride a bike in. I have almost been run down by people who are on their phones talking or texting, or asleep at the wheel, or just flat don't care and go by me w/ inches to spare. This stuff happens so quickly that unless I'm constantly aware of other drivers it can be too late. Just walking across some streets (like 4th st for instance) spooks me.

well its complicated but you could try shore acres. Concentrate on a potential tear down not on the water but close. Then build a new stilt home. You get the best of both worlds. need a budget of about 350K.
