Better than living in an old 10x10 studio in South Tampa.

Just did a search on apartments.com for a 2 bedroom for $1,000 in South Tampa. Only one came up (south of Euclid), rest are South of Gandy and one right North of Kennedy. Probably not going to happen. I think you missed that $1,000 mention.

Congrats on continuing your education; I am sorry for the choice of locale. New Tampa has a ton of new construction and you can easily access USF in 15-20 minutes. Tampa is packed with Midwesterners; one neighbor from Michigan once told me "it's as boring but without the snow". Don't get confused by all the suggestions, the place is a hot humid armpit from every angle. Take it from an 11 year resident of the area; I will never get those years back.

Once you are done, you will probably leave because the job market there sucks. Good luck.

Where did you move that was so much better? Tampa is diverse and yes, humid. Yes more mid westerns than our eastern coast, but not overwhelming. New Yorkers, Cubans, South Americans, Ive found in general area.

I am not trying to offend anyone, but Tampa is pretty lame. Moved to Tampa from Seattle and returned to Seattle 4 years ago (after 11 years in Tampa). And that was our problem, we were used to being outdoors 12 months of the year, hiking, snowshoeing, camping, with 3 National Parks less than 3 hours away and a ton of state parks and quaint towns to being in Tampa. The beach thing wears off pretty quickly (after the second time). If you are single, you will be bored to tears, if you have kids, you will be taxing them around to their extracurricular activities on weekends like everyone else and call it a life. Interesting enough I have more diversity in Seattle; not only we have Latins, but we also have Indians, Chinese, tons of Europeans. Being home to Microsoft, Amazon.com, Boeing, Starbucks, Costco, and offices of Facebook, Google, Space X and a ton of other tech companies, diversity we have plenty. Winters are mild, and summers are dreamy; homes don't have A/C here.

I mentioned Midwesterners simply because the person interested is from Ohio. And yes, there were plenty of New Yorkers too.

Reading this thread was a bit discouraging with some of the misinformation provided. Not every area around the University is "ghetto" and there are plenty of decent housing options.
