Well, i rent an apartment in a big apartment complex. And there is a car sitting on a parking lot for a 6 straight month, I never saw a person driving it. It is a convertible with a busted rear window, ripped seats and looks like nobody needs it.
I would like to know there a way to legally own it?
And if it is abandoned should I contact a property owners about their policy?

If it is abandoned you need to go to your local dmv and ask then about getting a title for it. Me and my friend are doing the same for an abandoned monte carlo. Go talk to them and they will give you more info.

I stayed with some friends at an apartment complex once. There was a car there that never moved. EVER. We were SURE no one owned it. Then, one day, a letter went around telling everyone they were going to repave the parking lot and they needed to move. The next day, the car had been moved. Moral of this story: Someone probably owns it and very rarely, if ever, uses it. In this case, I think the car belonged to an elderly man who used it every so often, when none of us were home, for emergencies. Find the owner.

I agree with Maniac, ask around the neighbors for the owner. Somebody probably left it there or do what the other poster says ...find out at the DMV.

If you just think you can start owning it without approval, that is called "grand theft".

You better call the management company or the owner of the property and tell them about the car and go from there. Maybe a owner shows up and is willing to sell it to you for a very low price so you legally can own it

The only legal ways to obtain a vehicle in Florida that is not titled to you or is owned by the bank, and if it may be classified as "abandoned" is:
1) have the owner who holds title sign it over to you
2) you own a tow or salvage company and have towed the vehicle and impounded it, you have made diligent effort to contact the owner of the vehicle and they do not respond within a specified time frame, then you can have the vehicle retitled

You can't just walk up to a vehicle and as a private citizen take possession of any vehicle. Even if you deem it to be abandoned. The previous poster is right, that's called grand theft...regardless of the dollar amount of the vehicle. The DMV requires you to have the original title signed over as proof of a legit title transfer and ownership transfer. The only exception to that may be a vehicle that has a lost title and is part of a will or estate sale, in which case a power of attorney may suffice.
You have to try to locate the owner. Grab the VIN off the vehicle, and see if a buddy who works for the DMV or a wrecker company can run the car on "Tag Talk". Then you can use that info to find the owner and try to get the hookup.
