My Fiance and I are planning to move in January 2009. We were considering the Tampa/Clearwater area....But, now im concerned! I'm not reading any good things about the Tampa area, let alone Florida We're moving from a small town outside of Detroit. Were both college students and we have two children. Things that are important to us are of course jobs, education (for our 6 year old and soon to be preschooler), and cost of living. We're looking to attend Univ. of South FL, or Univ of Tampa to continue our education..My finance can transfer his job, but I will be in search of a new job...Is this a great move for us (from MI to FL)? Any suggestions... Is the Tampa area really that bad? If not the tampa area, then where in FL?..... If not FL, then has anyone got any suggestions on any great areas to relocate in the US?

I would never make a move based on about a dozen or so posters to a Forum, when the Tampa Bay area has about 2 million people(330k just in the city of Tampa alone)...just a thought.

The Tampa/St Pete area is a great place to live and raise kids. We moved here from St. Louis 15 years ago. Both of our kids attended public schools in Pinellas County and both went onto successful college careers.
The Tampa/St Pete area is composed on small towns and geographic areas that have unique personalities of their own. We live in a small community named Safety Harbor. We have our own "downtown" local "politics" and civic parades, festivals.... There are many areas in the greater Tampa/St Pete area that are like Safety Harbor-and none have snow in the winter.
