We are looking to move to the Tampa area in the near future (6-12 months). I have been in contact with a few people but would like a little input from local residents as well. Where is all the big construction happening? We are looking at both Wesley Chapel and Riverview for homes and I would like to be within 45+/- minutes from my site. Working in construction I know that my office will change location every year or so but large projects seem to stay towards one area in my past experience. Any information on large general contractors (commercial/industrial) would also be greatly appreciated. I have been in contact with a few national and international contractors (prefer not to mention publicly) down there but I know there are large local GC's that I haven't been able to find.

Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated.

Large long term projects such as high rise, infrastructure, industrial would be in downtown Tampa, lakeland, Bradenton and St Petersburg. Tampa offers major expansion projects at the port.

I consider projects such as water treatment plants, CSX rail terminal expansion in lakeland/port sutton, the pier in st pete examples of long term projects, as well as highway, schools, hospitals, power plants, college, and high rise. I dont consider suburban residential or retail generally long term. I vote for Riverview but it really depends on your trade and employer. You could end up working a gig in Naples, disney/Epcot, or UF Gainsville.

I drove through Riverview for the first time in a long time and couldn't believe how many new subdivisions are out there as well as more land is being flattened/cleared out as far as the eyes can see- cookie cutter homes built only a few feet away from each other. Suburbia. Pretty pathetic because you know these housing developments will look like trash in a decade. 2009 during the housing crisis nothing was going on - times have changed.

Perhaps once a week I drive back from Bradenton/Sarasota during rush hour to Brandon. The back up for the Big Bend Rd exit going south seems to go on for ever. I would not want to face that everyday.
