I had been going to a doctor in Tampa called Dr. Affordable, and he didn't require insurance (good for me since we don't have any - I'm a perpetual contractor). Not only that, but he was able to find these tremendous discounts on prescriptions, which he would text to me to show the pharmacist (e.g., instead of my Wellbutrin costing $125, I got it for around $35). Anyway, I'm looking for a place that doesn't require insurance, since such a place can just charge what they want (which usually means lower costs to me). I'm in Clearwater so would love something on the north side of Pinellas County if possible. And a female doctor (much better bedside manners, IMHO).

I'm not looking for free clinics. I can pay; I just would like a discount that the doctors who take cash tend to offer. I'm also looking for a family doctor, which I don't think these clinics are set up for. Also, free clinics tend to bring in the homeless and down-and-out. I feel for them, but I don't want to use this kind.

Most Doctors charge cash customers more than they would be paid by insurance or Medicare (financial proctology).
Seriously, Please let me know if you find a Doctor who charges self-paying patients a rate in line with insurance reimbursement.

My advice to you is to sign up for some inexpensive Obama care coverage. If you suffer a serious injury such as a broken leg, car accident, etc. you will be in trouble.

Agree about signing up for a plan Nov.1st-Dec.15 2017. We are a family of three and pay under $200 a month. Our prescription has a 2$ copay, specialists only 10$. My husband had emergency spinal surgery with a top surgeon and we had 0 out of pocket. Right now it's crazy not to have coverage. You will have a month wait from when you apply till it takes effect.Even if Obamacare goes away it will take time to happen...Good Luck!

I'm looking elsewhere now because he moved his offices to mid-east Tampa, and I'm looking for something closer to Clearwater.

Even if that is a bronze plan, I think you are benefiting from the ACA income subsidies.

I pay over twice that (just for me) for an "early" ACA plan that has a 10k in-network yearly deductible, 10$ prescription co-pay (only covering generics), and an 80 dollar co-pay for an in-network specialist visit. After all that, I'm thrilled that I have this plan. It has a large nationwide network and great negotiated rates on any procedure I have to pay for myself.

I worry every year that it will be canceled (got it in 2010).

Tricon7, you might consider checking out the ACA subsidies if your reported income isn't large.
Yeah, we did. We'd pay something like a $6k deductible per year while paying $1,200/mo. for Obama's "affordable" insurance. We'll pay the fine for not having it before losing our shirts by having it.

Tricon is correct; ACA is very unfair to the self-employed and their families - even those with meager earnings.

Is Obamacare really affordable? Not for the middle class. - Nov. 4, 2016

I see nothing "civilized" in a system that victimizes small business owners and the working poor, however well intentioned.

Pride has nothing to do with it - you'd be paying an inordinately high premium for what is essentially a substandard catastrophic insurance policy.

Meanwhile, the family next door with more kids than you gets their medical treatment completely free of charge. Very unfair.
