Hi everyone,

I am currently attending college at the university at buffalo, and have been planning on moving south as soon as i graduate. I was just wondering with my degree in Finance which city has the better opprotunity for me. If anyone would have an idea offhand that would be very helpful. I dont mean to start a battle of bashing each other, but from some threads i have read i seem to getting a mixed answer. With this knowledge it will be more likely that i will make the move, I just cant take it up here anymore lol.

Thanks

I would say Orlando. It's nicer there and is the next best thing in the up and coming cities in Florida. You shouldn't have any issues with the jobs there either! If I could move there instead of being here, I would!

Thanks, and i know people will probably tell me that the grass is always greener on the other side but theres not much left up here for me. Will it even be possible for me to find work right out of college? is the economic opprotunity cost worth do you feel? Also i just need some more sunshine in my life lol.

Wink With a degree in finance...

...I would think you'll be able to find a job in either location, especially if you're willing to work for a bank.

I would take a good look at what else you like to do with your time aside from being in the sunshine. Both locations will have plenty of that. They are only an hour apart, but if you are a beach person, Tampa might be better than Orlando. If you want to be able to go to Disney for dinner (on a whim), Orlando would be better. Both offer night life and plenty of housing options... and plenty of sunshine... so I guess it just boils down to how you really like to spend your free time.

LOL. I have known a lot of people to get work directly out of college here (in the Tampa Bay Area--I am an assistant manager for an apartment community, so I see a lot of acceptance letters and apps. showing they were in school). I am almost positive if they can get one here, you should have no problem getting one there in Orlando. Orlando, like I said is the next best thing when it comes to growing cities in Florida. There and Sarasota, but Sarasota doesn't have as many job oppotunities as Orlando could offer you. You should try calling around to companies to see if they have any openings or looking in the newspaper. Orlando news, information, weather, hurricane coverage, sports, entertainment, shopping, restaurants, real estate, jobs, business, classifieds -- OrlandoSentinel.com

Finance? Oh yeah! You shouldn't have any issues!

It is cheaper to live here than in NY. You might get paid less than you would at NY but that's how it is, where it costs more, you get paid more, where it's less to live, you get paid less-but there are a lot of nice areas over there plus many tourist attractions so you know there are a surplus of jobs!

I hope this helps!

Raymond James National Headquaters is in Tampa Bay region, MetLife has its largest regional Headquarters in Tampa with most of the Finance people working out of the New Tampa location(just two examples out of dozens). I'm sure in Finance you would be fine in either city, but I believe the Tampa Bay region(Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater, Sarasota) would post more of an opportunity than Orlando.

I am sure New Tampa or Wesley Chapel can offer you that. Brandon also has A schools. You can go here: Hillsborough County Public Schools-Tampa Florida
And look up schools in different areas in Hills. County. A schools are the most desirable since the scoring is higher...

I hope this helps!

I have two school aged children, middle school (girl) and high school (boy) so i am particularly interested in good schools and safety. Any recommendations and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Tampa is an inland city also so it's not that close to the beach as you would think. Orlando has Cocoa Beach around 45 minutes away which is a fun beach(especially coconuts). For entry level Finance jobs, I think Tampa may get the nod...Orlando has more engineering/tech jobs from what I have seen.

Cool not really near beaches

City of Seminole in Pinellas has good schools and is very safe. 1.8 mi to the most beautiful beaches and next to St. Pete which offers lots of activities and is safe.

Default you're right but

Tampa is about that far to the Gulf beaches. Cocoa is on the Atlantic.
