My husband and I may be buying a business in the Tampa area, but we know nothing about the "community" of Tampa. We really love historic homes and would love to live in a well preserved, historic neighborhood. Any suggestions?

Well preserved historic neighborhoods in Tampa include Hyde Park, The Heights areas(Tampa Heights, Seminole Heights, Riverside Heights), and Ybor City. Out of all of them, Hyde Park is my favorite, then Tampa Heights with it's huge old Victorian's and larger lots - but still gogin through a bit of a trnsformation, then Seminole Heights - closer to the River. Ybor City is a National Historic Landmark District, but doesnt have quite the 'neighborhood' feel as the others I listed,a s it is also an entertainment district(think a small Bourbob Street area like New Orleans).

Default They're all over

Unfortunately, there are no entire neighborhoods, but there are pockets of preserved homes in South Tampa, Seminole Heights, Ybor City and some other areas. I took photos of a lot of these homes when I was building my website. You can look up the homes by County on the National Register of Historical Places at National Register of Historical Places - FLORIDA (FL)

Tampa is in Hillsborough County; St Petersburg is in Pinellas County.

Hyde Park is definitely going to be your best bet. The historic district is roughly the triangle formed by Bayshore, Swann, and Rome. This is the best preserved neighborhood, but you pay for it. Prices run from about 500K-3 million on the bayshore. These days it seems hard to find anything nice for much under $300/sqft, even with the soft market. The next nicest would be Old north East in St. Pete.

I know its been 5 months since you posted, but I am new to this forum. If you are still interested in a historical home that isn't priced to high and if you are okay with an area in the process of transformation then you might want to consider Seminole Heights. There are homes that are in the historical site and then you have whats called the overlay. The homes in the overlay are a lot more affordable, but you do have homes in the area that still need work. There are 5 new houses in the zip code 33603 which is the overlay ranging in the area of $319,900 - $349,000.
Hope this helps.

I would agree with Hyde Park. It's historic and beautiful!
