Hello Everyone,

I might be moving to the Tampa area soon, my question is. Can someone please tell me the good and bad about Tampa. Please don't tell me about the beaches and weather. I want to know, where the good and the bad neighborhoods are. Where I can walk at night, and not get killed, or where can I live without having gang members destroy the neighborhood. Just a place where good decent folks live. I currently live in Los Angeles, and have an opportunity to transfer to the Tampa area.

Thank you

Try searching this forum, first. There are a number of threads on neighborhoods. I recommend Carrollwood, but I'm partial to it.

LOL, I don't know you at all, but I had a feeling you might be looking for something like that. Of course, I have no idea where in Tampa you'd be working, so you'd have to see if the commute would be workable for you, and again, I have to stress that I have been sort of a cheerleader when it comes to Carrollwood to the point of boring the socks off people. In my view, Carrollwood is just about the best neighborhood in Tampa, but that's just me.

So many variables. Budget? Buying? Renting? Commute?

As far as safety, there are no guarantees. With unfettered access to handguns in this country, you're really not safe anywhere. There are neighborhoods usually lower rent areas (for example Nebraska Ave near USF always concerned me), certain areas of ST Pete seems to have higher reports of crime, murder.

Seems like most victims are walking around at 2 a.m. Dumb mistake, imo. Nothing good usually happens at 2 a.m. on streets anywhere.

My favorite areas are Channelside area of Tampa and St Pete downtown/Northshore Park area - I find myself visiting those areas all the time for sports, concerts, museums, restaurants, exercising......but again, depends on your budget.

Too funny! Act now and dial 1-800-ripoff and we will offer you two months free membership at Mons Venus.

Seriously, cut it out. Downtown Tampa living isn't NYC living. If you work downtown and have money, you live on Davis Islands, or maybe down Bayshore.

Weak early/first post.

NYC living in Tampa? Whoever claimed that? Vinik and Gates are spending a lot to develop the area. That's his point.

While politically, BucFan and and I are on opposite corners (by the way, NY has very tight gun control laws and yet we have tons of crimes involving guns...that is because criminals don't consider themselves subject to laws or rules) but I agree with him 100% on this...I read about what Vinik is doing not only for Channelside but the central business district of tampa itself...within 8 to 10 years, Downtown Tampa's skyline will be TWICE as big as it is now...he said his plan is to make downtown 24x7 not just 9x5 as it is mostly now...

Haven't been to the area myself yet but I have heard that Downtown St Petersburg and the central Tampa area has some VERY LIVELY sections...

If you believe in what Vinik is doing, piggyback by buying up some of the dumps in Palm River and parts of East Tampa.
