Hello: I am planning on retiring to The Greater Tampa Area. I was wondering if i should live in a Mobile Home Park or buy a Condo. I don't want a lot of upkeep. I want to live frugally, with Social Security, IRA-401K and a small trust, the money has to last. I should be able to make out pretty well when i sell my townhouse in Denver. Any recommendations on Mobile Home Parks and cities to live in ? I am taking a trip to St Petersburg in April 2018 to explore. My first trip to Florida was in 1974 when i was 16 and it was to St. Petes Beach, so Pinellas County is my primary focus. But will also be looking beyond Pinellas County on the Gulf Coast. Thanks. Alan C

Look for an 55+ mobile home community. Prices are usually not outrageous, the communities can be quiet and orderly. I think our area has a lot of them. Bradenton has a lot of them with lower monthly HOAs.

One thing to consider regarding mobile homes is they are often under mandatory evacuation during a hurricane. That was the case during Irma a few months back.

and check their history for flooding - seems like for every tropical storm the newscasters go find a mobile home community that is submerged.....due diligence.

I travel through Bradenton to hit the beaches all the time and see so many nicely maintained MH communities and have stopped in a few for miscellaneous garage/yard sales and ask about their HOAs, etc and they appear to be well run, and a good retirement plan for people who don't have a ton of money to invest in a regular home/condo.

You will be amazed at how the area has grown since 74.
Plenty of Mobile home parks to research in Pinellas and St Pete =

there are retirement communities south of Tampa (about 20 mins) that you can buy condos (1-2 bd) for $50-75k, but the drawback is they have HOAs $500/month. But that covers a lot of your basic expenses (cable, water, security, some transportation shuttles, fitness center, pools, painting, lawn, certain insurance of the unit).

Default Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I will do a lot of research. My mother had a nice winter home in a mobile home park in Sarasota. Wish i had purchased it when she sold it due to her health.

Take a good look at 55+ condos before you decide. You can view them on Zillow or realtor.com

Other parts of City-Data enable you to compare cost of living and other demographics from different places.

We were not subject to evacuation in our condo on high ground in Clearwater when Irma came through.
