It has nothing to do with the current administration. Having done work with Puerto Rico's power infrastructure I can assure you it's been in a state of disrepair for years. This event just pushed it over the edge, which in some respects is a good thing.

Do realize that many developed countries in the Caribbean and Central America still don't have reliable power. Places like Panama still suffer from routine rolling blackouts at certain times of the year.

People take our utility systems for granted. Head across the border to many countries and you'll discover that a day without an outage is unusual....

Where are all these Trump haters coming from? That island has been broke for many years before Trump got into office. A nice 150 ft wave can finish off the job and do us all a favor.

Considering that the interior and much of the island is mountainous and well above 150' MSL, a wave of that height would do little other than wiping out San Juan.

Oh isn't that a nice way to start off the new year. Wishing death upon our fellow Americans! I bet you also like to slice the heads off cats and spit on children. How fun!

The truth of the matter is that Puerto Rico is part of the United States, and I can guarantee you had it been Rhode Island, Texas or Montana, they would have had their services restored a lot faster than Puerto Rico has. Puerto Rico's 3.4 million residents are entitled to the same government aid response as Rhode Island, Texas, Montana and Florida for that matter.

Fixing Puerto Rico requires a sustained federal aid commitment, which it has never received.

Or should we just let the place turn into a complete craphole, prompting 3.4 million Puerto Ricans to move here to the mainland? Then they can just live here for free off entitlements that you and I will be paying for with our tax dollars.

I think I'll take Option A, thank you very much.

No need to go to Panama to find rolling blackouts. Just come on over to South Tampa, where TECO ensures that we all live like in Panama, or worse.

Well said. Rep for you. Couldn't say it better. Not surprised by the ignorance shown by many people from top to down. Most didn't even know that they are US citizens.

Lets just say i loved my BB guns when i was a kid . Why in the devil would ya blame Trump on the run down shape PR is in? They need to be broken away from the U.S. and fix their own crime ridden self. Their service is from the 50's and way out dated kate. No way it was gonna be fixed within a few weeks. Most of them have moved to FL anyways over the last 50 years , same for Cuba. Trump needs to cut off all food stamps and aid. If ya can't work then ya need to die kirk. Tired of drug dealers and thugs living off the system. PLus if a cane with gust to over 200mph hit us many of us would still be without power flower.

Always entertaining to see people post about the problems in PR with restoration, ignorant to how much a POS the electrical system was in PR long before IRMA.

Outages increase as Puerto Rico company crumbles amid crisis

So, when you start with little to nothing like PR had for it's electrical infrastructure it takes a lot longer for restoration. Had PR had a decent electrical system the restoration would have been easier.

BTW, PR pays 0% in Federal Income Tax, they are already living off of entitlements, more than $21 BILLION ANNUALLY:

Quote:
According to the Consolidated Federal Funds Report compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau, Puerto Rico has received more than $21 billion annually in federal aid from the United States.[1] A substantial portion of this amount is earmarked for public welfare, including funding educational programs (such as Head Start), subsidized housing programs (such as (Section 8 and public housing projects), and a food stamp system called the Nutrition Assistance for Puerto Rico program.
