My brother will be graduating from USF in a few months, and I will be traveling down there with my family.

What are some nice, SAFE hotels around that area that are reasonably priced (like $70-100/night)? The area around USF seems to be sort of sketchy. My mom was about to book rooms over at that Red Roof Inn on Busch Blvd , and I told her NO WAY! From what I remember about that area, it was over by Sulphur Springs and Nebraska Avenue. Not a nice area.

What about the other side, over by Temple Terrace? I think there are some Hotels off Bruce B. Downs up in New Tampa or Tampa Palms as well, right?

Any advice would be appreciated!

IM not sure what rates are going for , but most hotels EAST of 30th Street/Bruce B Downs on Fowler Avenue would be good. Embassy Suites, La Quinta, Wingate, there are also a cluster near Fletcher Ave and I-75 - Hilton garden Inn; Courtyard, residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, Fairfield Inn Marriott's; Extended Stay, Hampton Inn.

Default I think Embassy is good

It's right at the corner of 50th and Fowler. Just across the street from the Sun Dome, No driving required. But it will fill fast. I'm not sure if that one has a restaurant in it but there's a Perkins just outside and a string of quickie places like a gyro place that has some great Greek/Med platters.

I stayed last year at the Towne Place Suites I think it was, the cluster of hotels mentioned by Tampaguy at I-75 Fletcher exit. It was a decent place and the area seemed nice enough. THere were restaurants nearby, and with the easy access to the freeway it worked out just fine. I felt safe in that area.

I would use priceline and priceline a hotel in the New Tampa area. I have done this in the past and paid about 70 to stay at the Winggate.
