Safeway has a store in Largo, will there be anymore in Pinellas county any time soon? Safeway is huge out west, from the Mexican border up into British Columbia in Canada.

The WD near me recently became Harvey's. Its a nice store with a decent selection, and prices for Florida. I certainly hope as these closings get going, that they don't decide to close this Lakeland store also.

Kroger is focused on technology like apps, mobile checkout and online grocery delivery and less focused on opening new physical stores these days. I doubt they will enter Florida soon.

Most grocery retailers are focused on mastering the online grocery business, although Publix and Winn Dixie are not.

Three remaining Albertson's stores in Florida converted to Safeway. Unless Safeway opens additional stores in the southeastern United States or Albertson's acquires a quantity of remaining Winn-Dixie stores, I do not see Safeway or the Albertson's umbrella conglomerate expanding.

I have noticed several Winn-Dixie stores across Polk County closing food (grocery, meat, produce, seafood) and pharmacy departments. The closing of grocery, meat, and produce departments makes a supermarket useless.

Kroger failed with Florida's Choice and SupeRx. Unless it utilizes Harris Teeter to open additional stores in Florida, I do not see it expanding.

Technology alone is not enough for any retailer to be successful.
