$350k is near the bottom end of Fishhawk, probably the original portion of it that was built in the early 2000s. Many of the locals refer to it as "ghetto", which I find amusing. That gives you an idea of the social norms and caste system that exists around there with some residents.

I read on one of these threads that kids can actually be bullied for being from the “ghetto” older homes. Is that a real thing?

Could be now a days. My sis and her friends did that back in the 60's on the school bus since we lived in Danashores and they lived in poor TNC. They would say they are eating steak and lobster while the poor kids were eating beenie weenies.

I heard it in the schools in Fishhawk when I worked for the school district.

That's when I first heard the reference, as I couldn't figure out what these kids were talking about when they were calling out some other kids as "being from the ghetto". I asked one of the staff and they told me that they were referring to anyone who lived in the original (oldest part) of Fishhawk Ranch.

I grew up in Lakeland and graduated from high school there. As a product of that community and school system, I opted to move 3 states away and raise my children in Cary, North Carolina. I would never recommend Lakeland or Polk County for raising a family.

Wow! Those are strong words. May I ask why? I’ve heard good things about Lakeland Highlands. Is it not so?

Crime is terrible.
Schools are terrible.

The people in Lakeland who live south of downtown like to pretend that the north side doesn't exist. Crime doesn't care; it follows the money.

Since you have posted your interest about multiple areas of the country, I encourage you to research each one thoroughly.

Do you have a preference 30 minutes or a job in Lakeland? Suggestions?
