Residents of one Tampa Bay neighborhood fear death of their ‘Old Florida Living’

I dunno why people are upset. McMansions next door will only raise their property values!

Well, none of this is news or unusual here. This has happened all over Florida, mostly in coastal areas. Newer homes aren't the problem, it is the destruction of the environment and the gargantuan homes on postage stamp lots.

Some localities have enacted Building Codes that limit rehabs by scale, footprint, etc. Here's Gulfport's and while not perfect, it's a start. Recently Gulfport is discussing historical standards as well.

I cant get over the size of the Patel house that's taking years to build on White Trout Lake.
You can see it from Dale Mabry or Busch Blvd.
It'll be the biggest, most expensive house in Hillsborough County.

I once owned a house that was over 4,000 SF. I found it isolating, as everyone could go off into their own little areas. That, and there was a lot of wasted space that I had to condition for little or no value.

This is like the 1940s-50s bungalows that end up being knock-downs in south Tampa and replaced with a McMansion that totally overpowers what little real estate there is. Then the neighborhood looks really weird with the wildly contrasting homes all shoved together.

I don't get it....

Reason i moved from Danashores back in 04. Why pay crazy taxes. Mine are only around $310 a year vs 1000's in Danashores.
