Maybe what makes Tampa terrible is so much of it is spread out and areas that should be desirable are rather treacherous, like Clearwater, while your plushest suburbs are miles out of the way? And why do so many congregate at the municipal beach along Courtney Campbell causeway? What about the real beaches?

why did you fall in love with tampa?

What about tampa makes you want to pull your hair out?

I have lived in South Tampa almost my entire life and what makes Tampa so great is:

1. The climate- where else can you fish, jet ski, golf, play outdoor sports, walk and have sunshine all year round

2. The tropical atmosphere- where else can you walk into your yard and pick an orange or an orchid off your tree.

3. Festivals and art shows- Tampa plays host to the largest art shows in the southeast and has some kind of festival to attend almost monthly.

4. Music- there are so many performers from country, rock, hip hop, jazz etc. that perform in our high quality ST Pete Times Forum or the Ford Amphitheatre.

5. Sports- We have our own professional football, hockey and baseball teams and so many little league teams for the kids, they cant be counted.

6. Parks and recreation- Tampa has one of the worlds largest unbroken sidewalks at Bayshore Blvd where the Tampa Patriots wave every Friday to the Military driving home. We have the Friendship Trail that you can walk, ride a bicycle, skate over Old Tampa Bay.

7. Restuarants and Stores- The Tampa area has some of the finest restuarants such as the Columbia and Berns steak house and too many to mention. The malls are super and so are the many smaller shops for unique gifts.

8. Hospitals- We have some of the country's best hospitals such as Tampa General for trauma /burn unit and the Moffit Cancer center.

9. Schools and Universities- who can really complain about them?

10. People- we have one of the most diverse cultures in the country. Not all are congenial but the natives are more so.

What I dislike the most about Tampa is the constant construction to improve the areas because that just delays me from getting from point a to point b and the constant whining from those that moved here from other states that cant see the real beauty of this state.

Yes. And they are much stronger. I believe that Tampa is the lightning capital of the nation.

regarding lightning strikes...probably unlikely...

however...having not seen any statistics...probably above average...

i would hope the greater awareness of the dangers of lightning keeps people behaving safe..

It has happened where ppl are outside when a thunderstorm is approaching and they get struck by lightening. Doesn't happen every year, but it has happened. You just have to be cautious before and during a thunderstorm. IIRC you can get hit by lightening even if the actual storm is 5 miles away.
