Try living in upstate NY but walk outside in the winter and die of frostbite or lost limbs in minutes! Then sleep in front of the heater all night. Repeat that for 5 months straight. Upstate NY! The grass is always greener on the other side!

Ain't that the case.
I guess some folk just prefer to be too cold than too hot.

Although summer in Florida is brutal, winter in New York is MORE brutal.
I believe that Florida is the lesser of two evils.

Absolutely. Coming from the upper Midwest is much the same. Not to mention the added benefit of nearly constant sunny skies versus gray and overcast for extended periods of time.

Also, it applies equally whether it’s winter or summer - you can get cabin fever and stay locked up, or you can embrace the climate and find ways to enjoy the outdoors. It’s far more enjoyable finding ways to enjoy the outdoors.

Anyone who thinks summers in Tampa are brutal has obviously never been to a Southern European capital city in August.
Athens,in particular, can have ferocious summers where people sleep outside on their balconies for weeks at a time because it is so hot at night.
Mind you, they do enjoy a very civilised siesta every day when they put their feet up for a couple of hours.
It ensures late nights and restaurants and bars still serving food at a reasonable time and not everything closing by 9pm.

For me, there's a whole lot of things I can do outdoor in the hot summer - watersports, boating, fishing, hiking, bbq etc etc, or just throw up some shade, drink a cold beer, and take a nap

Outdoor in the winter? Not so much if I don't like to ski and hate getting cold feet or blasted in the face with cold air.

I get where you're coming from, but I'm from the opposite end. I've lived in NY my whole life, moved to St Pete Beach 3 months ago, and am happy to be hot instead of cold. I've been cold my whole life, I don't like outdoor winter sports or activities, so I just want change.

If you've lived in the heat for a long time, the cold might be a welcome change. Makes sense

Exactly my sentiments. We are planning our exit from northern Illinois to Dunedin very soon!

I'm thinking west coast Cali. Have tons of family there and love the weather, the traffic, earthquakes...I'm ready for it. Just get me out of florida
