Hi there. My husband will begin working on his PhD at USF this fall so we are relocating to Tampa. We have a 9 month old son and are looking for a safe, family oriented neighborhood, ideally with only a 20 - 30 minute commute to USF. Our budget for a starter home is about $200-250K. (Although good schools would be nice, it's not essential as my husband will be wrapping up his PhD and hence we'll likely be moving again right about the time our son is ready to start school.)

I guess my first question is, does a neighborhood like I describe exist? If so, where? I appreciate any suggestions on where we might start looking.

Thanks in advance!

Tampa Palms and Hunters Green are two nice, family friendly neighborhoods within an easy commute to USF - you will find a lot of USF staff residing there as well

I ditto this. Anywhere in Tampa Palms/New Tampa. Also check out Carrolwood.

The only thing about Tampa Palms/New Tampa is that it's very congested. I second the Carrollwood area.

Or some community of Morris bridge, that is mostly an easy commute. Even from State rd 54 between Curley road and the Home depot I can be at Fowler in 20 min. by taken Mrris Bridge, so that isn't to bad. If I take State RD 54 west it takes forever on busy times.

Some good Short sales and great foreclosure homes for sale!!
I'm not a realtor, but have seen them.
