Well I can agree with that is a rough area and I wouldn't choose to live there. I think it was mentioned the area bound by 4th & 49th (east-west) & 1st Ave S & 22 Ave S (north-south) including midtown are rough, but you know that area also includes Roser Park and the gentrification of Bartlett Park, also borders Gulfport for example.

It should also be noted that this area is the highest ground in St Pete and there are a lot of cool old homes and big trees. I can see this area change as it is on the edges south of Kenwood first.

I don't know the names of the neighborhoods, but the houses I was looking at were in the $ 100K - $ 120K range.

If they were that cheap that is basically Midtown which is a dangerous ghetto. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy there. As I said, when real estate is cheap, there is a good reason.

Instead, why don't you try Disston Heights? Homes will cost a little more there but it is a MUCH better neighborhood and close to town. You have to act fast, though, anything under $200,000 will be gone in a matter of days. You can google to see the boundaries. Good luck!
