If it’s any consolation, I’ve been called at least 4-5 times in 12 years. My spouse has been called once and was on the “dismissed” list posted before the day you serve.

An aside for readers of this thread:

Do be aware that when you are selected for jury duty that it’s for the week, not just the day. This is stated clearly in the summons you receive, but few ever read it. When people show up and find out they could be seated as a juror for the week they often get worked up about it, thinking they only had to serve for a day.

It is for one day, unless you are on a jury for a trial that goes more than one day. This from Pinellas website:

Quote:
Jury service does not end at a specific time of day. Plan to spend the entire day for your jury service.

The Florida Legislature has mandated that our courts use the one-day or one trial system of jury selection. Most jurors are selected on the initial reporting day. Some trials will begin and end on that same day.

Incorrect. Your service can be for a week or longer. Jury selection is typically one day, but you can and are required to be available for the week or longer, as referenced on the Clerk’s website FAQs found here:

https://www.hillsclerk.com/Jury#JurySummonsInfo

“Please note that although your report date is scheduled for Monday, your service can be for the report date only, from the report date through sometime that week, or, in rare circumstances, from the report date through several weeks. Plan on the entire day for jury service, for there is not a specific time of day that the courts conclude. Please make arrangements with family, friends, and/or your employer with regard to this potential time frame.”

In Pat’s video about juror service she specifically states that service is for the week but typically only ends up being for a day. I have served where I spent Monday in jury selection then the trial was scheduled later in the week. In that case I had to return on Thursday for the trial, effectively taking two whole days out of my week.

I believe we are BOTH right...for our respective Counties. We were both called for duty in Pinellas and the summons was for ONE DAY, with the proviso that if we were selected for a trial, our duty would last the length of the trial.

This from the Jury pamphlet at Pinellas Clerk of Court on Jury Duty
https://www.mypinellasclerk.org/Port...uryService.pdf

JURY PANEL
Jury service is for one day or for the length of one
trial.

They probably never called you in because you're not a properly registered voter, or determined that you were a liberal, far-out democrat, leftist socialist or whatever for even asking about volunteering or wishing you could volunteer in the first place. that's my take.

Counties/courts have been known to do a little digging on backgrounds for sure - such as a search for criminality nationally, and even political activities/stances/publications/affiliations that may affect their objectivity and suitability.

There are all kinds of so-called 'reasons' why some or certain people never get into the courts' 'jury pool'. It's generally a 'pool' not a random citizen lottery. Lots of reasons that people have no clue about....and some very good reasons why they are never called.

Per Pinellas Clerk of Court

Jury Selection
Prospective jurors are randomly selected from the Florida Department of Highway and Safety Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) records. These records include all Pinellas County residents who are eighteen years and older who possess a driver license or Identification card. We receive and update these records quarterly. Residents are eligible for jury service once every year.

Jim,

Put a sock on the conspiracy theories, please.

I work indirectly with the Clerk’s office, and I can assure you there is nothing inappropriate or subversive about the process. It’s nothing more than a database with a random selection process, nothing more. There is no human interaction with the selection process.

<sigh>
