Looking to move in the near future and plan buying in the Tampa to St Pete area. Just doing general “for sale” searches online, I mostly see condo/townhouse/ large apartments communities that accept dogs buy up to a 36lb max.
Is anyone aware of any communities that accept a large dog? Own a house now and would rather not have all the hassle again, haha, but will obviously get one if I have no choice.

I would recommend renting for 6 months before buying so you can determine where you want to live long-term. With a larger dog you will likely find more luck renting a condo or townhome from a private owner who is renting out for a while for whatever reason versus a community. I had a similar situation when I first moved to Tampa....not one animal that was over a certain weight but 4 animals. It took a lot of searching because a lot of places would not allow them, bu I finally found a great townhome to rent from someone who was posted overseas for a couple of years and was more flexible.

Good luck!!

Downtown St Pete is much more amenable to larger dogs in their apartments, however they are prob the most expensive in the area, but its also very very pet friendly.

We did the move and had a very very difficult time finding any condos or townhouses that accepted our dog, who is quiet and about 30 lbs. I would also recommend downtown areas like Lavender says. In general, housing in more city-like environments (especially downtown areas) seemed to be more accommodating for people with larger pets rather than condo communities. Good luck!
