So I'm curious, does anyone know how much the fine is for cutting down a tree without a permit in Largo, or where I can go to find out? I know it's a violation to cut down a healthy tree > 4" in diameter without a permit, but I can't find anywhere that states what the penalty is. FWIW, this would be in the city of Largo, not unincorporated Pinellas.

All of the laws I believe have been loosened by your new governor. I would verify online and if pre-dated this year online, call them.

Hasn't happened yet. The loosening of the law appears to be that you are free to cut down any tree that is deemed unhealthy / hazardous without a permit. Unfortunately, this one appears to be completely healthy and no hazard.

It's a County ordinance in Hillsborough. Not sure of the fine.

Tried that on a banana tree. Nothing I did would kill that thing. Finally ended up offering it someone and they came and dug it up.

Wouldn't that be easily detectable and therefore lead to the fine? Drilled holes seem pretty obvious to me... Also what gas did you use and how long did it take?

It's a city ordinance in Largo, and Pinellas county has their own for unincorporated areas (which this isn't). My question is about the fine, and it's really frustrating that I can't find any information anywhere. I'm curious if it's the homeowner equivalent of a parking ticket - something like $500 + plant a few smaller trees to make up for it -, or a serious offense - something like $10k + replant a tree of the same size

What species is it? Is it native or not? If it’s something invasive you may be exempt from replacement.
