We would like to be in the Pinellas area, but really cant find houses we like in the price range we have (under 300K) Finding nice houses in Wesley Chapel/Lake Magdalene/Land O Lakes area north or Ruskin/Riverview/Apollo Beach area southeast. What is the better area and why. We are moving from south suburban Chicago. Thanks in advance!

Depends. Where is work? What do you want to be close to (other than the beach, as all outsiders want but don't understand)? What about schools, orders that matter?

More info is needed to give an informed response.

Not sure about work yet...I am retired, wife works in higher ed. Kids are out of the house so schools dont matter much. We are just going to move and wing it.

Without more specifics either area would work. The Riverview and Wesley Chapel areas area growing faster than they can handle the influx, so prepare for lots of traffic and construction.

I live in the Ruskin/Riverview/Apollo Beach area for a reason (near relatives), but it's not that great of a location, imo. It is becoming more and more congested as well (traffic) and booming w/ new home construction/plaza constructions for stores and restaurants. It'll look like SR 60 Brandon soon - one of the ugliest stretches of roadway in my opinion - poor community development. The whole stretch of SR 60 is one big eyesore.

The only good thing for being in the Ruskin area, imo, is that it's relatively close to STP, Sarasota/Bradenton, Tampa ---so it's centrally located. I'm in each of those areas at least once a week for one reason or another.

I would try to find something in Lake Magdalene area. I like the area, and you would be in Tampa. The other areas are way too congested and out of the way, would get old fast. JMO, of course

Like Carrollwood and Town and Country, Lake Magdalene is part of the county. But it is....... much, much, much....... closer to tampa then pasco.

If work and kids aren't a concern, shoot north to Crystal River or Homosassa Springs.
Although some consider it an armpit, it isn't as built up or congested as areas south.

If you're retired, suggest you find a community with amenities or decent fitness/YMCA type facilities. Re: Apollo Beach area. New $16 mil facility on Big Bend YMCA is an outstanding place for most of one's fitness needs. As we get older, getting into a daily fitness routine keeps father time at bay. There are 13 different area YMCAs throughout the TB area. Carrowood has an older one, and S. TAMPA NEAR Bayshore Blvd is really nice.
