At the end of the day, here's what matters:

1) Do whatever it takes to avoid a collision.

2) Install a 2-camera dashcam that records both forward and backward at the same time, with a removable memory chip for evidence.

3) Carry on.

We used to have state inspection here. It was discontinued because it was not cost effective.

In California if you were rolling along the freeway doing the speed limit, some ijit would pull out of the entrance and poke along in front of you at 30 MPH.

The text tards are the worst. A 19 year old text tard just ran over a kid as he tried to board a bus in Manatee County Wednesday. I almost got hit by a SCHOOL BUS driver running a red light while she was texting Friday morning. Another hit a cement mixer while taking a selfie last week. This is much worse than the drunk driving problems late at night. These morons kill people.

Seeing it a lot - had to dodge a BMW the other day while walking, clearly saw his face in his phone.

The inspections required in the Tampa bay area were required due to a mandate on air quality (ozone, specifically, if I recall correctly) by the EPA. When that mandate was rescinded, inspections ended. It had nothing to do with costs.
