I don't think anyone was suggesting it was creepy when you were here - that area has been somewhat "depressed" for decades, although at that time it was probably just on the fringes of being run down and not derelict.

The constant rain you experienced was an anomaly. It does happen once in a while, but that weather pattern is not common for this time of year.

While you're not specific about where you are in the PNW, if it's in any of the major population centers I feel sorry for you. The climate's bad enough up there, but the growth in areas such as Seattle and Portland is such that it is a major contrast from the late 80s compared to today. I used to do a lot of work in that area in the late 80s through the end of the 90s, and even in that short time I was disappointed in how the area was changing.

This area is having many of the same growth issues, although they're nowhere near the scale that the PNW is experiencing. That being said, I much prefer the climate here to the gray overcast "roller shade" that moves in around October and doesn't retract until March or April up there.

Yes, that was my point. The area west of USF was never a nice place, in my experience as a poor college kid. Hasn't changed. Never enjoyed USF. Preferred and better at a small population town with small student body.
