Does anyone know how to go about this?

Can we DIY or should it be left to the pros? We are thinking of buying a house with a gravel lawn and really would prefer grass in at least the back yard. We have two dogs who would rather have grass as well.

You might be able to get someone to pick up the gravel for free if you let them keep it and then have a sod company come out to lay the new sod.
I am sure you could do it yourself but unless you work quick the grass can die. You want it off the pallet quickly so you can water it.

I have seen some people try it themselves and still have the sod on the pallet 3 days later and it never made it once they put it down.

is it neccessary to remove the asphalt underneath? or can we just add a nice layer(s) of soil on top and then lay sod?

I would think so but I didn't even know they put asphalt under them.
They used to just put the black fabric weed barrier under it.
