I am coming to Tampa this weekend with my boyfriend and parents. I'm 23 he won't turn 21 for another month. I wanted to show him around, my parents own a house in New Tampa, but this will be his 1st time going. Given that we are still pretty young, I wanted to show him the city a little(not even sure if tampa has a real downtown feel). I was planning on going to Ybor City Sat. night, but maybe exploring Hyde Park and Channelside during the day. Is any of this on the waterfront? Is it walkable or do I need to drive?

Defintely head down to Ybor City, check out the funky shops, International Baazar, France, MC Film to name a few. Game Works is very large video and interactive gaming area, Ybor has one of the nicest movie theaters in Tampa. If your into bars, there are plenty of them, and a few are 18+. It can get a little crazy after midnight.
You can take the streetcar frmo Ybor to Channelside/downtown. Visit the Aquarium, check out Splitsville upscale bowling/restaurant, sit outside along the water at Margarita Mama's or Stumps Supper Club. You can walk along the water at the park near Channelside(Cotanchobee Park-next to the Marriott Waterside), walk over to Harbor Island and Jackson's Bistro. Downtown isn't as busy after the 5pm work crowd leaves(not many people actually LIVE in downtown), but Tampa Theater is a great historic theater, and across the river on Kenedy Blvd is University of Tampa and HB Plant Museum, and a nice waterfront park with awesome views of downtown.

You'll have to drive to Hyde Park Village, but ca walk to Bayshore Blvd from the village, and also check out the old historic Hyde Park neighborhood.
