So, areas like tarpon springs are desirable but generally overpriced? whats happening with property taxes? most of us northerners flee to escape our 10k+ tax hits every year.

Yeah... House prices in this area are getting quite ridiculous. It's been surging these past few years to asinine prices...
Property tax is 0.90% in Pinellas. Looking at around $5,000 for a $500-$600k house.

Beautiful towns though... Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Oldsmar, Palm Harbor, East Lake, and to a lesser extent, Tarpon Springs.

I just saw a article published yesterday in the Tampa Bay Times about redeveloping U.S. 19 in Western Pasco County. There's been talk of a variety of mixed-use development and even the construction of 15-20 story towers according to the article. I know that area is not really the best part of of town right now. However, I feel it may improve soon if the prices around Tampa continue to skyrocket.
