Tampa Bay Times

Tampa Police Chief Mary O'Conner and her husband were pulled over by a Pinellas County Deputy for a traffic stop last month while driving in a golf cart in Oldsmar.

Chief O'Conner asked the deputy to let her and her husband go after she identified herself.

The deputy did not cite Keith O'Conner for not having a tag on the golf cart he was driving on a public road.

Yeah, I don't see this ending well. For her. Especially since the mayor is gearing up to run again.

Delegado should have gotten the job in the first place. Mary is a cop crony of the mayor.

Perhaps Tampa needs a new police chief and a new mayor.

Yes you are correct...bad move though on her part...I can't get too worked up about it though because of the alleged offense...if it had been say a DUI then both officers should be fired!

The cop did not ask who she was, she jumped in and said "I'm chief" in an obvious attempt to influence him
There's no reason to drag politics into this, as it's not the same. This is a law enforcement issue, not a political influence issue. There's a power dynamic here, for sure, but it's not politics.

I could list a litany of things that the former cheeto did that could be considered comparable if I chose, but it's just not the same.

Oh really, just a law enforcement issue and no politics, her being his boss? If it was so then why no ticket? He was told there was a problem with carts and his job was to give some tickets. He didn't do his job. Why was she so thankful afterward?

It was obviously because she knew he was in for a ticket and she had his back. This casual misuse of rank makes you wonder what else she is casual about. Rank, which often is awarded, shall we say, to 'compensate' for past or imagined wrongdoings. She just happened to mention who she was by "coincidence" and no other motive? If you can say that with a straight face you may have a promising future in politics
