hi, we are moving to Tampa from Milwaukee. We are looking for a safe area that will be under $800 for rent. Just a one or two bedroom. We dont need a pool or anything since our friends are also moving the same time as us and they will have a pool. Near the ocean would be nice. Any suggestions?

I'd check on Craigslist or contact a local realtor to help you.

I did, I just wanted suggestions from those who have been living in the Tampa area for a while and I thought this was a place I could find that.

Seriously doubt you are are going to find anything on the gulf for $800 a month. You might find something on Davis Island in one of the older apts for that amt. You probably won't be directly on the water but you will be close to the bay.
You can find apts in your price range but it is hard to recommend a place since the Tampa Bay area is so large.

What about work? If you are working, what commute time is acceptable? Do you want to live in the same area as your friends?

You'll have a hard time finding a nice 2 bedroom that's under $800. Rent is expensive here. I'm not even sure you'll even find a nice 1 bedroom for that much.

One thing you need to think about before you decide to live right next to the water is hurricane season. If a hurricane rolls through here you have a much greater potential of flooding your house and your car. Also, wind damage would be worse.

Good luck.
