Hi, I am trying to find out as much as I can about the city of Odessa. Does it have the small town feel? Is it family oriented and safe? How about the schools. Whatever anyone can tell me would be much appreciated.

First of all, Odessa is in no way a city. Think rural roads with no town to speak of. Lots of bedroom communities off the main roads, strip malls (with the same stores over & over) . It's pretty safe because it's not too populated yet, although there's still a building frenzy going on . About 1/2 hr nw of Tampa (commute is terrible-did that for a year) Housing-you can find anything from falling down rural to $$$$$

Thank you Doggies2. I posted this a while ago, back in the winter. Since then I did buy a home in Odessa and I have to say I love it. It is quite a rural town (I don't know what to call it...it's my city address, but it's not a city...I guess a stretch of land through 54!) but I do feel safe. So far it is very pretty, although I know there will be a lot more construction as is almost all of Florida. However, compared to my home town of Philadelphia, Odessa is a breath of fresh air....warm, sunny, and beautiful....and the traffic...not as bad as I expected and nowhere as bad as a big city. Luckily I don't have to really travel into Tampa unless I want to. But thanks for replying to my post.

Margel! How's it going girl? The drive to the airport isn't bad at all. We've driven to Dale Mabry pretty quick and my daughter made it from Wesley Chapel in 15 minutes. Getting close to our move. It should be around the 3rd week in September. When are you going back?

Hey Pooh! How are you? We made settlement in July and am extremely happy. I had to go back to Philly (am here now) so that my 2 older daughters (14, 18) can graduate from their schools (a promise is a promise), but I am missing my new home and area already. I know I will miss it terribly come dismal January, February, and March. But my permanent move will be right after school ends in June. Until then, I plan on as many mini trips as I can afford. I wish you luck with your impending move....you must be thrilled.

I'm a nervous wreck. We closed on the house down here and should have a closing up here around September 15th. Not really looking forward to the drive to Florida with the dogs but I did line up a dog sitter for a weekend away to visit my son in Florida! Yeah, I'm making some progress.
