Just off Dunedin north of Clearwater.

You can take a ferry there or your own boat.

From Jacksonville take I10 across to I75, Head south and get off at SR54. Take SR54 west to US19 then head south to ALT19 and take that south about 5-6 miles to the Dunedin Causeway and head west. The parking area will be on the right side of the road for the ferry.

It is very nice.
I have been a few times.
If you are going to walk the trails off the beach, do not go off the trail, there are some big rattlers on the island.

You also used to be able to get there by walking all the way to the end of Clearwater Beach but during one of the big storms it got washed out in between the 2. Sometimes as more sand washes up you can still walk that way but it is always nice to take the ferry.

The rattlers are not on the beach and you don't have to go where they are.

I love taking the ferry from Honeymoon Island and walking the beach. It's like paradise in our backyard. Don't worry 'bout the rattlers. It's a short path through the woods to the beach so if you don't go hiking you most likely won't even see one. Plus, you can take a photo with the "Beware of Rattle Snakes" sign and send it to your mother so she can freak out

Caladesi is beautiful. If you think it's small, then you obviously have not been or have not walked along the entire stretch of beach which can take you into North Clearwater Beach. I am out there about every weekend jetskiing in Hurricane Pass, which is between Caladesi and Honeymoon (which, on your picture, would be in the foreground). Caladesi is only accessible via a ferry, which runs regularly from Honeymoon Island.
As for the directions, what the previous poster called "Dunedin Causeway" is actually Curlew Rd. The route is also pretty spot on, 10 to 75, then south to SR 56, actually. 56 will connect with 54, but it cuts out a little unecessary drive through a neighborhood/business area. Take 54 all the way out to US 19, turn right on Curlew Rd., then drive out as far as you can go. It'll dead end at Honeymoon Island. Park in the lot and take the ferry to Caladesi.
It's a beautiful area, the sand is like powder, and it's near the Clearwater Beach area for nighttime entertainment.
