Are there any communities that use natural gas for appliances and will let you install a whole house generator as well? I know to the south Lakewood Ranch uses gas but I don't know if they allow the generators or not but am curious about the Tampa area.

1. check with the homeowner association
2. check local building codes and see if there is a space for it (clearances are important)
3. get a price on the generator/ automatic transfer switch installation (get specific information on exactly what type/size equipment they are using)
4. get a price on the gas line installation (they'll want to know the fuel consumption of the generator you're planning to install)
5. make sure that all installations are going to be complete. some companies only install but do no start-up proceedure. then you'll have to pay for that also (around $600). the start-up is very important so you know everything is right.
