Hello!

I have been searching for a house to rent in Tampa. The average prices that I have seen are 1000-2000 for these big beautiful houses. Is it unreal, or is that typical in Tampa. I am ready to move ASAP!!! ANy helpful advice is appreciated.

Thanks

In Wesley Chapel, just NE and close to Tampa the average rental price is $ 1,000.- - $ 1,500.- for a 4/2/2 in communities that are pretty nice and have a pool. Just 30 min. from Tampa airport.

Yes you will find some rental deals in Florida because the rental market has an abundance of vacancies do to people leaving Florida and being unable to sell.

Its a start. I'd find a few places, then probably use an agency to assist to handle the lease. At least call the folks up - maybe they use an agency. One thing that I'd worry about is that the landlord will sell the place from under you - and cause you to have to move. I've seen stories about this happening lately with the number of foreclosures and short sales.

There are agents on this mb that might be able to assist you.

You need to be careful of craigslist although I am not speaking from experience, but I have heard of some crooks who rented out houses that weren't theirs. Folks moved in and found out they had to move since someone else owned the house and it was not for rent. They lost their deposit plus had to move again and come up with another deposit. You can check on the Hillsborough property appraiser database to see who owns the property but that won't protect you from foreclosures.

Not trying to scare you but you need to be aware of what could happen.

Have you looked in one of our local newspapers? They are on line and they have houses for rent. They are the St. Pete Times and TBO the Tampa Tribune.
Perhaps it would be good if you post what area you are looking in and what type of house, 2,2, 3,2,4,2. What is your budget for that rental.

it depends on how comfortable you want to be. i know a guy who rents for less than 500 a month, but he's in the ghetto. check the paper and there are some homes for rent around the 800's

I have tried Craigslist and rec'd some ODD emails from weird people. A lot of the prop's seemed like they had pics stolen from TBO and when they replied to my email they were all diff emails from ppl telling me that they are now living in Africa or Europe, etc...because of job relocation and wanted my personal info, along with 500-1000 dollars mailed to them in order to rec the keys and paperwork for the home!!! I was like - are you kidding!? SO, I don't think Craigslist is somewhere that I want to look for housing, especially since I am not into the Tampa area right now. I will look on the websites that were requested and see what I can find. I just wanted to get some appts lined up and drive down and see as much as I can...I appreciate everyone's input

I live in Atlanta right now, and my family lives in PA...we are all looking for a 4 bed, 3 bath house to rent until we get settled into and area that we would like to buy. I have seen some beautiful houses online for rent 1200-2000/mo...that is reasonable for us.
