I'd like to thank everyone who recommended S. Tampa. My husband got to our rental house today and while the house is older than he would like the neighborhood looks nice and safe and the dogs love the backyard.

We're looking for cheap furniture for a year until we buy a house and upgrade to better furniture. It looks like most of the stuff we have in NC will have to be donated or sold as it won't fit in our rental house.

National Half Price Mattress & Furniture - Tampa and Pinellas Discount Furniture and Mattress Super Store/Clearance Center Leader. Discount furniture, mattresses, bedrooms, living rooms, dens, kitchens, and almost any home decor need. tampa pinellas (http://www.nationalhalfpricemattresses.com/index.html - broken link) looks like it has good deals on mattresses. Is anyone familiar with them? We were thinking IKEA for a tv stand, etc. but we would welcome any suggestions. We're pretty much planning on living like college students for this year so we aren't planning on being too picky. Any suggestions on where to go?

I would look on Craigslist. It takes more effort than shopping at a store but the deals can be great.

If you don't mind the knock around or assemble yourself furniture, then I suggest Target or Ikea as you already mentioned. But, do not overlook furniture consignment shops. Just Google "furniture consignment tampa" and you'll have a nice list to choose from.

Furniture resale shops are generally pretty picky so everything has to be in good shape and clean. They will have a wonderful, eclectic inventory to choose from. My best suggestions are The Missing Piece in South Tampa and The Odd Room in Palm Harbor.
