Anyone on this forum live on, or familiar with Harbor Island? Yea, it doesn't have a beach, but it sure seems like a cool place to live IF one wants to be in downtown Tampa. There seems to be a lot of residences for sale.

I know a few people that live on the island and LOVE it...they either walk, ride their bike or take a trolley to work downtown. Three great restaurants are on the island...Jackson's is huge waterfront, busy on the weekends, Cafe Dufrain and That's Amore, and also 725 in the Westin Hotel..all waterfront dining and cocktails...other than that its Island Living with the proximity to downtown that cant be beat...Channelside, Hyde Park and Ybor City are each less than a mile from the island. All gated communities on the island as well....

Harbor Island is tres bien! However, if given a choice I would live on Davis Islands (something for you to consider). However, the island is nice with a few decent offerings (the athletic club is wonderful). Views of downtown and the bay are really nice! If I didn't love SoHo so much, I'd live there!

I'm considering a Harbor Island condo. Not sure if I like the monthly HOA fees w/ the condo, though.

To the BucFan, I see you live in Germay. Nice time to be there. We moved from Germany to Tampa! Love it here.

Oktoberfest is here. I'm two hours from Munich. Won't go this year - too many people there.

I'll be following you from Germany to Tampa next Summer - looking forward to it.

Would not go to the Oktoberfest either. Would go to the smaller local Fest. Moved from Stuttgart to Tampa, took a bit of ajustment.... at least a day! This is a great area to live in. Lots of things to do, places to go, football teams, baseball teams, soccer etc.

When I drive on Harbor Island - it does feel like a commune - all the condos/home are so tight - because of space. Lots of concrete, too - not a lot of "free space" imo. Guess that's because of its location (on an island, downtown). Not sure if that would get old.

Default Buying a condo on Harbour Island

Is there a grocery store on the island?

I almost like Davis Islands. This may sound silly but I like good curbs and gutter systems and I don't see this on Davis Islands. I don't see it in South Tampa either. It really brings down the overall appeal of the place. Whenever there is a shower or storm the streets are flooded.

Harbour/Harbor (sp) Island however seems to have adequate curbs and would be a good place to buy a condo. Do you think I could wait another year or two years and still get a good deal? I mean, you don't think the housing market could recover by then?

Also, how hard would it be to commute to Dale Mabry from there?

Thanks,
BJS
