I want to take my boyfriend to the beach for his birthday. I only know of the beach by the causeway which is not so nice. Does anyone know of a local (30mins or less away from citrus park mall) beach thats nice and not too crowded. I want to go on the weekend and in the late morning. Thanks in advanced for the help.

I'd recommend Caladesi Island state park or Honeymoon Island.
Fort Desoto state park is also quite nice, but would take you probably 50 min or so to get there.

I agree with Honu1. Take the ferry to Caladesi, maybe pack a lunch and enjoy the beach. The beach is beautiful, check out the first pic in the Tampa picture thread. Honeymoon is nice too, if you don't want to pay for the ferry ride.

It is straight drive down Hillsborough. Takes about 30 minutes from Citrus Park

+100. Those areas are the best for a nice relaxing weekend, and the scenery is awesome. The gulf beaches are a little further away, but I'd also reccomend Treasure Island Beach and Fort DeSoto if you don't mind the drive. Those are much further south than Caladesi and Honeymoon.
