I recall seeing a lot of homeless characters near the Tampa Museum and Performing Arts near Ashely Dr downtown. Haven't been to that area for awhile, so the city may have moved them along.

What do homeless people look like?

I was employed, didn't drink, grew a beard, yes, but work permitted them...

I didn't stink up the joint, I just didn't have anywhere to live. It's happened to me a few times--where I've moved in with girlfriends (instead of having them move in with me), and the relationship goes south. Next thing you know--I'm homeless.

I think the "homeless" everyone is referring to are the career panhandler homeless you find on the (way too many) street corners with their beggar signs.

Anyone volunteer at the homeless shelters or free clinics in Tampa? I'd be interested in learning about how to volunteer to assist. I guess when I get into town, I'll drop in on one and see what they need.

I think many people's view of the homeless is that of the drug addict, wino or mentally unstable type. Many of the working, stable homeless are not viewed as such since they don't fit the profile.
