I'll be visiting on a apartment hunting trip as the move gets closer, so for now I'm just using the internet. I'd like to keep my rent under $1200 a month for a 2-bedroom. Will that fly in South Tampa?

You should have a good selection of apts in S. Tampa. You can live right on the bay at The Cove if they have one available on the bay for that price. Hyde Park is another area to consider as there are restaurants and shops all around the apts so you can walk to them.

You can always ask here for opinions on different apts you are considering.

Under $1200.00 for a two bedroom? Also look at the Camden communities south of Gandy on Westshore Blvd(directly on the Bay), lots of MacDill people there.

Wow no thanks. I started looking at their communities and reading some reviews and they have a bunch of extra fees for cable TV and trash pick-up.

You can find a 2 bd for that price, however it may not be the newest complex. The Cove is an older complex for example, I believe they have updated it and have washer/dryers in most apts now.

Regarding Camden apts, hopefully someone can tell you more about them. I always consider the source when reading reviews, if you see a lot of the same complaints, I consider them more creditable than someone who is mad because they were evicted for not paying their rent. Most ppl don't write reviews if they are happy unfortunately.

yeah for 1200 a month and a 2 bed, you can get a nice one in the carrolwood area or something but its pretty doubtfull that you will find something that great in s. tampa.. With the way the market is though, I would for sure not rule it out yet.

Just some pointers.. stay away from town and country (town and compton). I had a friend stay in a camden property. dont know which one by name but it was on the corner of sheldon and waters by the poo poo plant. He really never had any issues with the place and it wasnt a bad price for what he got.. although it constantly smelled like poop outside and was right next to town and country..

Not sure how it is now at those apts as far as the sewage plant goes, but the county did fix most of the problems with that plant a while back. A dry hot Summer was the worse time and even after it was fixed there were a few times when it would still be odoriferous if you were right outside the plant, not at the apts.

Those apts are nice and they had very few problems there. The downside is it is a long drive to MacDill during rush hour.
