Hi - we plan to move to Tampa area. We have two kids one 3nd grade and one 5th grader. We plan to buy a house in the area. Could anyone please recommend which area has excellent public schools? Also what are some popular extra curriculum activities here? I know summer can be very long and hot here, so what do most kids do during those hot summer months? Thanks in advanced for your input!

Wesley Chapel....On welsh road you have Elementary (WCES), Wesley Capel High School and Middle School (TEWMS) all next to each other. IMO very good schools!

New Tampa! Some of the school in the area have programs that are available no where else.

Elementary schools and Middle schools are located within subdivisions.

Hillsborough County has A+ rated schools.

You can find the ratings of all schools on this site:
Hillsborough County Public Schools-Tampa Florida

Hills. Co. as a whole, the school district got an A rating, I got a message from the school board 2 days ago about it.

FYI-
The "A" rated school thing means nothing. It means the standardized test scores were satisfactory and not that much more. From our experience, even the "A" schools are quite lacking.

Well, based on Newsweek's ranking, Hillsborough is in top 100 of US high schools (see link below). Do you have to live in Tampa to go to Hillsborough? As far as I know, crime rate in Tampa is quite bad.
