Hillsborough County has school choice options and tons of magnet schools so you really do have lots of options besides going private if you don't like your area schools. There is new legislation out there too effective Jan 1. that all condo owners have to have individual hazard (homeowner's)policies and not rely on Master insurance of the association anymore. Ask an insurance agent about what you need to have to be fully insured. Bloomingdale area has tons of commericial growth recently. Super Target, lots of new restaurants, road was widened recently too over there in parts of 301 and is still on going. Honestly, traffic is really only bad getting on and off 75, but 75 itself moves fairly stable except during rush hour at junction of I4. You have to ask your employer exactly where in Tampa they are, since everyone in the 75 mile radius says "Tampa" but downtown is a whole different area and commute then Temple Terrace (where tons of office complexes are) or Brandon (more industrial), or Wesley Chapel even (way north). I myself live in Riverview but further south of these condos.

Thanks!
You can by a house in Riverview (and Brandon for that matter) for that price point now. I'd bet even lower as time goes on.

I also think that the prices in the Riverview area seem to good to be true, but it seems to be that way throughout Florida.

I'm helping my wife's parents search for a vacation home in Florida, so I've been browsing the MLS listing for different areas. We're all over the map right now, but they really like the Clearwater / Tampa area.

I've seen listings for 2 and 3 BR condos in the Riverview area below $50,000., and they look like very nice places with nice amenities. There must be a catch. Super high HOA fees or something.

One of the communities is called Allegro Palm. Anyone know anything about it?

We're planning on visiting Florida in February. In the mean time, we're trying to learn all that we can. Thanks!

I must admit. I like Riverview to a degree despite the fact it looks like a redneck white trash kinda place. Its closer to the city and I like the feel a lot better there than I do in Moderator cut: .. Manatee county.
My mom got a house in Parrish for a price thats too good to be true and they were once more and got foreclosed on. I just had to mention it since its said in here how in FL its too good to be true if somethings so cheap.

it's an apartment complex that tried to jump on the CONDO bandwagon.....couldn't sell all of them so went back to renting.....so some people own those "condos" some are just renters....bad idea to me...

if you search 33354 zip wesley chapel, there are many detached
homes for around 120000, dues 100dollars, trash, mow, pest control, and paint for that fee!

What people need to realize is that times have changed and the boom is over. Home prices in Florida are resetting and going back to where people can afford it. It had gotten completely out of control and Miami was at a $300,000 average. If you didnt get a crazy mortgage you wouldnt be able to afford it. Now that its all over the prices are going to become per boom affordable again. While everyone thinks its cheap its really not. It has become realistic and you are not accustomed to seeing these numbers. Everyone is going to have to realize home prices were grossly over inflated and now prices have come back to where people can afford a home. Dont get this confused with cheap....

Before buying or thinking about buying a house in Florida, ALWAYS check out the property taxes and get an insurance quote.

The house you think is a steal that's in your price range quickly goes south when you add in the insurance and property tax costs...

Just as an example...

This house for sale in Fishhawk...

6172 SKYLARKCREST DR, Lithia, FL 33547 (MLS# T2305660) - Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate LLC - FloridaMoves.com

Not bad for $125,000 although it's only 1,239 square feet...

However...

P/MID: 4018214 Year: 2008 Folio: 88353-3320 Pin: U-29-30-21-649-000058-00005.0 AppCode: A

The total taxes due were $4,502

I don't see how that could really qualify as a "good deal" when compared to oh... I dunno... Houston, TX

When you can get something like this...

Houston, TX 77545 - HAR.com

That's 2,572 square feet and the taxes due on this house..

http://www.har.com/HomeValue/dispTax.cfm?MLNUM=20770614

are $4,192.

Not trying to stir the pot or anything, Just curious as to the thoughts of people moving to Florida these days..
