Can anyone who has recently taken the Florida Bar exam tell me some things about it? I took it 15 years ago in Mass.

I think the MBE has some additional subjects now - Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure are different subjects now, whereas when I took it, they were the same. Also, sales/UCC is on there now, and wasn't when I took it. SO now there are 8 instead of 6 subjects. I am wondering how the # of questions per subject is? Is it generally equally divided by subject, or are there subjects that get more questions than others?

For FL part of the exam, are there certain subjects on the essay part that are generally on there, or is it impossible to say?

And what happens if I do great on the MBE and so-so on FL? Is is equal parts or can a deficiency on one side be redeemed by a high score on the other side?

Thanks for the help.

I appreciate the response, but I went to the site and it didn't answer the questions I have. Hopefully, someone else will be able to answer my questions.

Thank you - it does. I am not taking a bar review class, so I'm not finding this stuff out the way I did when I was in law school.

Good, I am glad I helped. I'm going into law school in a few years so it's good for me to know too!

Scarlett68,

Why aren't you taking a bar review class. If we decide to move to FL, I certainly plan on taking one, probably by the video/DVD option. I just called a bar review place, and they charge $2425 for the self study bar review course, with video ipod, plus a $1000 returnable deposit. PRetty expensive, but the alternative (failing the bar exam and retaking) seems worse!

Default Florida Bar Exam

I just took the exam in February. I purchased a complete set of BAR/BRI and PMBR (Summer 2008) with audio sets of PMBR off e-bay. FL posts its past essays and "model" answers on the FBBE website. Scores are offsetting from MBE to FB section and vice versa. I created a chart based upon past essays (posted on FBBE) and did a simple probability analysis of what subjects were going to be tested and nailed it. Certain FL sections (civ and crim procedure, wills, business organizations) are nearly always tested and to date, they have only been tested on the MC section. There are a series of videos on one of the FL law school sites that gives a wonderful overview of the test, grading process behind the scenes mainly, but some substance. When writing the essays, you need to know that they do not count off for wrong answers, the graders are following a checklist to see if you hit all of the issues, then they look at your analysis to see if you hit them from both sides; your ultimate conclusion is marginal in the scoring. I did not take a review course, but I studied for 6 weeks, mainly focusing on the PMBR questions and writing two timed essays in each FL subject section. I absolutely crushed both sections of the exam. If you are 15 years out of law school (and I am close to that, but I will not say on which side), there is no way you are going to pass the exam without either carving out a solid month of study or taking the review courses.
