I just moved down here from NJ and in NJ kids started school at three years old without having to pay anything. I have been told it's different down here. Is it true? At what age do kids start school here without having to pay?

It is sooooooo different than Jersey! The age to go to Kindergarden is 5-you can put them in pre-k but you only get the pre-k free, and they hold it in daycares now. The learning levels here are lower, so the things they learn in the northern states are more advanced. My friend is from Jersey, she was 17 when she moved here and was suppsed to be a Junior, but since they are more advanced in the north, she graduated her first semester here in the Fl. schools! She graduated at 17!

No problem, and it is sad. We need our kids on a higher level here...

I recently taught kindergarten in a lakeland school and I am from PA-it was great-teachers were thoroughly trained before starting, had continuous training, many programs implemented at the schools for behavior, same curriculum as in pa, schools are very safe. I don't know how it used to be only heard rumors-but Polk County schools offer awesome educational experiences for the students and teachers.
